Guest Artist

Hello there!  I found a little bit of time this past weekend to be part of a trio of guest artists for my friend's webcomic. You guys should take a look at the comic archive - its quite awesome!  Go enjoy!

Gluten Free! Webcomic - Strip 43: So This Is Art

(Oh, I did Panel #3 for this strip.)

Busy

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while.  Ever since I've been putting in more hours, I've had little-to-no time anymore for anything other than work.  I'll have even less when I go full time.

I have been sketching during my long, 2+ hour commutes... I hope to have some pieces finished soon for some competitions.

We'll see how that goes.

Thanks to all my followers and visitors for still showing up.  ♥

Class

My job sent me off to a week-long class on Sharepoint.  I'm moving much quicker than most of the people in the class, seeing as how I have a lot of background in Web Design... and SharePoint is a lot easier than I expected.

This is a nice area... and once our current lease is up - we're looking at getting a town house in this area.

I've been doodling like there is no tomorrow - I might post some sketches up soon.  (Trying to get my printer to work with my new computer is frustrating)

Til then, I'm heading back to class!

February 2010 WIPS

Work has been keeping me pretty busy, but at the same time, I've been SUPER productive ever since I got the job.  I put in as much drawing time as possible now adays.  Which is good for me! YAY!

If you watch me on deviantART, you'll have noticed that I have updated a LOT these past 2 months.  I won't post everything here as well - too much stuff - so run over to my gallery there to take a look : komadorikai's gallery on deviantART

For now, take a look at some things I've been working on...

I'm at the 24 hour challenge at my school again, and I'm exhausted (just waiting for metro to open at 7:30).
So, I'm off to work on the Ariel painting that I've been neglecting for a month now.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Morgan le Fae

Just realized I hadn't posted this yet.

It's Morgan le Fae from the Ah! My Goddess movie.   One of my favorite character designs EVER!

I'm experimenting in Painter Sai with this piece.  Never used the program before, but I've heard good things.

Sailor Moon Art Jam

I'm participating in Mashi's Sailor Moon Art Jam on Deviantart : http://mashi.deviantart.com/

I'm doing the Witches 5 from Sailor Moon S.

New Year Sketches

New Years Resolution for me : Draw some everyday items everyday.

I had them posted up here, but that is going to change.  I'm making a website dedicated to ONLY those.

Happy Holidays to all.
This year was a great year for Christmas movies - got to see Avatar and Princess and the Frog (twice).

Both movies were just what I needed in my life right now - they truly inspired me to continue working on my own work.... and that's what I've been doing.

For now, enjoy some Naveen fanart from Princess and the Frog :

More work to come. I promise.

Enjoy the Holidays everyone.  And Happy New Year as well.

More Ariel Previews

Took a break from Ariel for a few days to work on some other stuff. Not to mention, my friend Mr. Araya messed up our tablet settings when he was here at Halloween... so I only get to work on her on my laptop (which, considering it's on life support, isn't often).

So I got back to her today. For a little while.

Ariel WIP 2

More In Progress Shots of one of the new pieces I'm working on.

Les Poissons

Thought I'd post a preview of the new painting I'm currently working on. I'm doing a lot of Graphic Design stuff on the side too... I'll post later. I'm going back to painting.

Oh, hope everyone had a great Halloween!

I added a new little widget on the right column. If I happen to be connected, you can chat with me - ask me questions, tell me what you think of my work, etc.

I have to say this, because my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw this this morning :

This blog had 2,377 visitors in the past 24 hours. SO CRAZY!!

I've been working on some stuff - but I don't know if I'll get a chance to post anything today.

Just, keep a look out.

And thanks for visiting.

Figure I'd share a little halloween pic I did of my friend and I's pets from Playfish's Pet Society game.

And do a serious shoutout to Three Panel Soul, a fantastic web comic that plugged a friend and I. Thanks you guys. You guys ROCK!!

http://www.threepanelsoul.com/

I've been working on my boyfriends website layout forever, because it's been giving me non-stop problems. So yesterday, I sat down and completely recoded it and it's fixed. So now all I gotta do is add all the content.

While waiting for said content, he also asked me to redo his blog layout to resemble his new website layout so that's what I did today.

Check it out :

Other Mermaid

I just realized I hadn't posted this on my blog yet....

You can click here to see the finished piece :

I was working on my current story/comic idea before I moved. And seeing as how the characters are.... well, not completely human (not wanting to give away the whole story here), I needed some ideas for facial markings.

So I did some studies of various cultures and peoples. There are some various animals in there and some characters from movies and tv shows and the like. And some original designs.

I wanted to see how markings could affect character personality, even on a default face. So imagine some of these on perhaps a big burly man or on a sweet child. And by doing some research, I learned what markings mean what, so if I wanted to have a bit of background on a character to match their facial markings.

I want to go and do some more....

New Layout Again...

With my website back up and running, my blog is no longer missing images.

So I decided to make it up to my visitors (and my blog) and just fix up the layout a tad bit.

I hope you enjoy.

Just to Post

Sorry haven't been posting much. Apartment hunting was taking up most of my time, and now packing.

But, I figured I'd post something up here, seeing as how my portfolio website is down for the moment.

I tried my hand at a full digital painting in a different style.

Done with ONE brush. Still needs some work. But that'll be all for now.

I have a bunch of face art concepts that I should post but that'll have to wait until Monday. We're moving over the weekend.
OH! And some business Identity stuff for others. I'll post that as well.

Until then.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Step by Step

Finished the Step by Step of my newest piece. I would add a background, but this was more of a test of new character and new brushes...

It's quite large, so click for full view!!

I'm working on a new personal project - I've had the general idea in my head for a while now. Last night my boyfriend and I brain stormed (cause our ideas play well off each other) and I got the whole story down. I may turn this into an illustrated novel or a comic... or something.

So, today, I did a concept for it.

A random fish mermaid, based off of a Maldives Lyretail Anthias.
It started as a rough painting and with some edits, I "inked" it and am going to do some progress shots.

I probably should go back before I get any farther and make it a higer resolution.

I'm in the process of making new little linking buttons off to the right over there....

but for now...

I GOT A NEW PORTFOLIO WEBSITE! Go look!

rewynd on Tegaki E

A quick painting I did on Tegaki E while at work today. It's Migaloo, the white Humpback Whale that lives in the oceans near Australia.

Animation

Animation #1 from my Advanced Animation Class.

New Layout

Finally the new layout is up to match the rest of my business identity. Enjoy.

I'll post some images from my DVD and Playing Cards later.

Right now, I'm off to continue animating.

Speaking of, I'll post my last animation as well - soon.

I passed all my classes. And passed my final review - which means I'm graduating in June. Woot!

And because my boyfriend's business identity was all over the place, I decided to help him out.

So I gave him the idea to make his little self portrait robot lean on his logo and I made this mock up for the DVD case :

The background is black so it'll be seamless on a black dvd case. I'll help him work on the other stuff tomorrow.

For now, I'm going to sleep.

Portfolio Giveaway

One idea for a giveaway for either a) Tillman's "Promotion Class Show/Con" or b) Final Portfolio Show.

Hand painted (obviously) and assembled. Information on the inside, including # out of #.
Would be given away in a nice mesh bag or a nice little box.

This set would be for Tillman's because every shell is broken.
I would like to get big fake shark teeth for final show. And/or unbroken shells.

Did the 1 in about... 10 minutes. The hardest part was getting those beads on the string.
Oh, and that string sucks. I hate it. I sheds everywhere. Worse hemp twine I've ever gotten.

Goddesses WIP

Newest Work In Progress Shot of my 4 Celestial Goddesses :

Galaxy has been changed to a purple instead of a green. Sun has a bit of a sunflare-esque design on her dress and Star's been changed to a purple and yellow mixture. Her dress has also changed in the drawing, but I haven't scanned that yet.

I think I'm happy with where the colors are.

So now to finish the turnarounds!

Goddesses WIP

Been busy with Senior Project 2. My final review is in a few weeks.

I have some old characters that I pixeled years ago that I decided to do nice turnarounds of.
Here's the color test of their side views :

From left to right they are Sun, Moon and Star.

I've created a new one as well, Galaxy that I think I'm going to try to get completed soon.
I changed Sun's colors to be a big more burgundy and coral. Moon to a bluish overall. And Star to purple. Galaxy will be greenish.

More to come soon.

I had a small group of friends over yesterday for my first "Coloring Party."

It was fun and I was slightly productive.

I did a couple speed Paints. Less than a half hour a piece :

Newest Pieces

The Pencils / Inks / and Flats to one of my newest pieces :

I've started coloring it as well. The face is almost done. About 80% I would say. Body is only at about 40%.

I also created a chibi piece of the same character :

(did it as an example for possible commissions)

New Mascot

Still working on that layout. It's not going as smoothly as I had hoped.

Until then, I've been working on a new design for my Rewynd mascot.
Waffles isn't going anywhere! But there will be a new addition.
To keep with the whole fish feel.

I decided to... do a mermaid-esque character.
And before everyone starts "oh! I knew Robyn was going to do a mermaid. Disney blah! Blah blah!"

SHH!

It looks nothing like ariel. So hush.

I went through a whole stage where I didn't know if I wanted her to be a fish mermaid or a whale/dolphin one. After a chat with Bakia - we decided on a dolphin.

The Common Dolphin. Which has a huge streak of yellow-orange down their side - which will fit with my logo color. Yay!

I have a colored version too. I decided to give her the extra pectoral flippers to differentiate her a bit more. The pattern on her fluke and such will be altered a bit more. I'm in the process of making a model sheet at the moment.

Not to mention I've already drawn a really pretty picture that's ready for inking and coloring. That I'll get to later today once I get home from the Eastern Shore.

It'll give me a little something extra for my portfolio/final review too.

Some professors and a fellow student told me (well after I had half of my business identity stuff done) that my stuff looked too "techy" and not reminiscent enough of a character designer.

And while I agree with the character designer aspect - I was going to add a character to the whole thing and just hadn't gotten to that point yet.

But they said my colors needed to be changed and my logo needed to be altered.

I'm working on that at the moment - so be prepared for a drastic change in the layout.

Senior Project Done

My Senior Project is complete. I got an A in the class.

Here's all the pieces put into one image for your viewing pleasure :
---------------------->CLICK HERE<----------------------

When I take some photos of the plushie I made for the project, I'll post those as well.

This is the ONE background that I've been dreading working on.>sigh< This is a couple hours worth of work. I still gotta draw an ice city in there.

Finished Background

One of the background/environments that I'll be handing in for Senior Project. If I have extra time, I'll add a kangaroo peeking over the fence - until then - this is what I've got.

I really dislike doing backgrounds.

Watermark added for protection. Deal with it.

Since apparently I didn't set my blog to allow comments.... (thanks to the 2 people that told me) ...YOU CAN NOW!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAhaahahahehhh

>cough<

Long Weekend

So I didn't go to school today (I only had one class and I could afford the absence) so I'll be here all day doing homework. And since there is no school the rest of the week, I don't have to go to work on Saturday and school is canceled on Tuesday... I got a nice long period of time to do some work. (We do go in on Monday though.)

To get myself in the drawing mood today, I decided to quickly draw the Bakia-Sheep that I draw randomly to make fun of my boyfriend. He takes it all in good spirit. >hug<

I did it in flash in about 15 minutes. Now to get to real work.

Caparina Progress

Between working on homework (falling behind on) - I'm still working on this picture of Caparina.

Her outfit is not fully designed yet...

And this was a test color with the scan that I have at the moment. Just practicing. Seeing what to fix before I start inking.

What do you guys think of me redoing my old Morgan le Faye picture?

I'm possibly going to Katsucon in February with some friends and getting a table and I wanted to sell some stuff. I thought I could possibly fix this up and color it and sell this? Among other pieces of course.

She of course, needs a lot of work.

Caparina

Here it is - 7th week. I'm slowly falling behind in my classes. Need to fix that. Also need to draw more. So, I drew Caparina. An old character of mine that you may have seen before :
She's from an original story, Saligia, that I used for my script writing class. The story will be getting an overhaul, and will be used for Senior Project 2.

Last night I decided that I need to draw, and she begged to be drawn.

Ok, I know of a few problems. The legs are terrible, which is why I cropped them off. At the moment, she's just kinda floating in the air. That will be changed. Her knees will be moved up. The other arm is not going to be hidden, I just need to decide what to do with it. The folds on the sleeve make me angry and will be redone. And I of course need to figure out what the rest of her outfit is going to be. I will also be doing my "epic" hair. And thank god for photoshop because her one eye was adrift just slightly that it was maddening.

Other than that, I'm happy with her progress so far. What do you think?

I successfully pulled an all nighter (and an all weekend-er as well) and managed to get my Senior Project midterm completed.

When I finish getting the AiW 2D forum up and running in it's entirety, I will post some work from midterm.

WHAT DID BLOGGER DO TO MY TURNAROUND!? WHY IS IT BLUE!?!?!?

So today is my birthday - 22. I feel so old.

But I also feel very inspired and want to draw lots of stuff.

BUT...

I need to finish my Senior Project first, so I hope to finish up a lot of that stuff this weekend and I will post some. Actually, I'll post some quick previews right now!!

Characters (from left to right) are #2 [Alfredo], #3 [Bella], #94 [Leo]
I'm currently working on their turnarounds (thus Bella's arms are missing - haven't finished yet).

I've also got to finish up their action poses and expressions. I have a couple props done (turnaround wise). If I have time, I'm doing a lineup of some other characters I have concepts for. And I've got to finish up the environments as well.

Santa's workshop is the one environment I am NOT looking forward to doing.

And now I go to work.

I drew this for Jen Dutton (aka Ferfer) for her 2oth Birthday, which was yesterday.

Why a bagface?
Way back in February (wow that was so long ago), Jen came into the school store when I was working and she showed me this paperbag that she had made for psychology class. The two big sides had different facial expressions, for I believe biopolar disorders.

But I have pictures of her in the bagface, as well as dancing in said bagface. It was an amazing day.

24 Hour Challenge

Today is the 24 hour challenge. Now that I look at the time, it's already started.

I will be going to the challenge later, but I have to stay home and wait for a package.

Since I don't have much else to post at the moment, I'll post the 3 character designs I did for
Buffalo's 2D Team class.

We're doing Preproduction (and will be animating shortly) the Tortoise and the Hare. The Tortoise is an Amish farmer and the Hare is a CEO from the big city. I did the designs for the side characters

So here are the Momma and Baby Duck :

Originally, we had a horse, but we changed it to a donkey for ease of animation (I will be lead animator) :

I'll post more later.

I've joined the recent AiW bandwagon = blogspot.

I'm currently throwing some color and css on the blog to make it more "me" thus the orange.

Why join blogspot? Because I need to draw more. This will give me a place to post all my sketches and stuff for Senior Project, 2D Team, and whatever else.

I'm going to be a busy bee this quarter, I'm going to try to draw a hell of a lot more. I only have 9 months left in school...
